CCHD Screening with Pulse Oximetry

Masimo Monitors (Radical 7 or Rad 97) with Masimo Technology that comes with multiple Modes and various disposable sensors sizes:
Pulse oximeter Mode with your choice of using the standard parameters SPO2, Pulse Rate and Perfusion Index or the advanced parameters with Rainbow technology that measures total hemoglobin non-Invasively, Pleth Variability Index, … Etc.
Along with the Eve Software system that conducts the congenital heart disease screening for newborn.

What is Masimo Technology:

Masimo’s breakthrough Signal Extraction Technology® (SET®) overcomes the limitations of conventional pulse oximetry with the ability to measure through motion and low perfusion.

Reliable, Accurate Screening for Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD) with Masimo SET

Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most common birth-related malformation.1 Critical CHDs (CCHDs) are life threatening and account for nearly 25% of all CHDs.2 Babies sent home with an undetected heart defect are at risk of serious complications within the first few days or weeks of life, requiring emergency care,3 and even at risk of dying.

In a recent study, researchers found a 33% decrease in infant cardiac deaths after statewide implementation of mandatory policies for CCHD screening, compared with prior periods and states without policies, as well as a 21% decrease in early infant deaths from other/unspecified cardiac causes

Why is it Important to use Masimo SET® Pulse Oximetry for CCHD Screening?

The ability to measure through motion enables researchers and clinicians to obtain pulse oximetry measurements on active newborns without needing to first calm them or wait for stable plethysmographic waveforms to be displayed.

Masimo SET® was also the first pulse oximetry technology to receive FDA 510(k) clearance in the labeling, in 2012, to screen newborn patients for CCHD.9

Two separate studies found that Masimo SET® pulse oximeters detected approximately 10 times more true events than other “Next Generation” pulse oximeters studied.10,11 More importantly, in another study comparing the ability of three pulse oximetry technologies to detect hypoxic events, Masimo SET® pulse oximetry demonstrated the highest sensitivity and specificity during induced conditions of motion and low perfusion.12

Radius PPG™ Tetherless Pulse Oximetry

Radius PPG provides industry-leading Masimo SET® pulse oximetry without a cabled connection to a monitor, allowing patients to move wirelessly and comfortably while still being continuously and reliably monitored. Wireless connection to a host device is simple to establish and each Radius PPG can easily pair with multiple devices (maintaining connection to any one device at a time), simplifying transfers between care areas. Automated by Masimo’s connectivity solutions, patient data can be used for remote clinician notification of changes in patient condition and automatically transferred to the hospital EMR

Medical-surgical units are challenged by low nurse-to-patient ratios, increasing case complexity and variability. Clinicians have long understood the value of monitoring in helping to alleviate these burdens, but previous solutions for this environment have been intermittent, delayed and/or limited in their effectiveness. Masimo has developed integrated monitoring technologies providing noninvasive and continuous measurements that automate and streamline the flow of patient data to improve clinical efficiency.

The ability to continuously monitor active patients in medical-surgical units reliably – and to save clinicians’ time by documenting important physiological measurements in electronic medical records – allows clinicians to spend more time caring for patients.

Masimo offers an integrated portfolio of solutions designed to help clinicians focus on patients and improve workflows, including industry- leading SET® pulse oximetry, advanced measurement capabilities, vital signs monitors, portable monitoring devices, and a robust remote monitoring and clinician notification system

Complete Solution

Root Platform:

Expandable, Customizable Patient Monitoring and Connectivity Platform

Root is a powerful, expandable patient monitoring and connectivity hub that integrates an array of technologies, devices, and systems to provide multimodal monitoring and connectivity solutions – in a single, clinician-centric platform.

Root’s plug-and-play expansion capabilities allow clinicians to centralize patient monitoring by bringing together advanced rainbow SET™ Pulse CO-Oximetry, brain function monitoring, regional oximetry, and capnography measurements on an easy-to-interpret, customizable display, empowering clinicians with more information for making patient assessments. Further, Root serves as a central connectivity hub, with automated electronic charting of Masimo and third-party device data to patient data management systems (PDMS), which may improve clinician workflows through the reduction of manual data documentation.

Flexible Measurement Expansion

Root offers expandable measurement capability through software upgrades and Masimo Open Connect® (MOC-9®) modules – including Next Generation SedLine® Brain Function Monitoring, O3® Regional Oximetry, and ISA™ Capnography modules. Third-party measurement expansion allows other companies to expand the Root platform with their own technology, while following Masimo’s established development and validation process.

Root Measures:

Rainbow technology: SPO2, PR, PI, PVI, SPHB Noninvasively, SpMet, SPOC, SPCO, ORI.

O3 Parameter: Regional Oximetry (NIRS)

Sedline Parameter: Depth of Sedation.

Connectivity

Automatic data transfer from medical devices into Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) could improve productivity and reduce the likelihood of transcription errors.1 Existing approaches for device connectivity can clutter the patient room, burden IT management, and increase the complexity and cost of care. Masimo Iris™and Root® seek to simplify connectivity across the continuum of care.

Iris Gateway bridges the gap between device data generated at the patient bedside and documentation in patient data management systems such as EMRs.

Root integrates patient monitoring and connectivity. Iris Gateway interfaces with hospital Admit Discharge Transfer (ADT) systems to allow clinicians to associate patients to their data directly from Root.
